Charlie Black

Charlie Black is a filmmaker and animator based in Manchester, working as a freelancer and educator. Having graduated with a First Class honours MA in Creative Film Production in Berlin, 2024, she jumped into her premiere for her short MA experimental film 'Christmas Afterparty' as part of Gijon’s International Festival’s Official Selection in 2024. She continues to present her films at festivals across Europe, recently screening her final MA film 'Losing Touch' at Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival in Scotland, while exhibiting further collaborative works regionally.

Her practice focuses on the ecology of lived spaces, documenting the complex relationships between humans and the rest of nature that manifest in our daily lives. Using research and imagination, her work values emotionally driven documentary, blurring the boundary between subjectivity and objectivity. She highlights this through emphasising the material quality of film, working with both analogue and digital materials.
