Edited footage from Derek Jarman’s Third Eye installation 1989) In 1989, Derek Jarman made an installation at Glasgow’s Third Eye Centre (soon to become the @cca_glasgow). At the time of the exhibition, Jarman was one of the very few public figures in the UK to be openly HIV-positive. He was highly critical of the slow response to the AIDS crisis and of the ‘Section 28’ legislation that banned local authorities from ‘promoting’ homosexuality.
